Go Philly Hockey Moms!

When Sarah Palin dropped the ceremonial first puck at the Flyers’ opener on Saturday night at the Wachovia Center, she was greeted by resounding (almost deafening) boos.

Have to agree with commenter number 5 that Palin was nuts for taking her daughter with her onto the ice in enemy territory.

The comment Douchashov mentions:

"Not cool bringing out the nine-year-old on the ice with her. Her staff had to know she was going to be booed. These are the same fans who booed Santa! I’m no fan of Sarah Palin, but the mom in me felt awful that her daughter had to stand there while mom got booed. Poor parenting choice, Mom."

commenter #5's ability to feel awful for the kid AND indignantly judgmental of the mom is exactly the kind of superciliousness that Douchashov just wallows in. I can just picturing him fanning himself with his NYROB, shaking his head and muttering "savages."

Better put: Why is this child even on the campaign trail, instead of at home, in bed, on a school night? The reasonable answer may be that there's nothing wrong with home-schooling your children. Especially when the school is as unique an educational opportunity as a Vice Presidential campaign, and ESPECIALLY when the child comes from a family where a hands-off approach to parental supervision has a mixed track record.

Please. Of course the child should be with her mother, but she can stay with Palin's handlers for appearances on enemy territory. Take it from me, I've been booed by thousands on at least two occasions. It ain't a place for a child. The Palin campaign's hubris/ignorance (hubgnorance?) lies in believing she'd be cheered in any hockey rink.
